What are the service requirements for new fire extinguishers?
TMT has this question asked on a frequent basis.
AS/NZS 1851-2012, section 10.3 Frequency states:
Fire Extinguishers shall be serviced –
- Six-monthly;
- Yearly; and
- Five yearly
Upon installation and after any usage, a six monthly service shall be carried out.
So, if you purchase new fire extinguishers, they are required to undergo a 6 monthly service and be tagged before installing in the workplace.
From then, the normal yearly and five yearly services apply (unless they have been used).
