As a result of the recent changes to the Queensland Work Health & Safety Act and Regulation 2011, there will be an impact across all industries in regards to training Health and Safety Representatives.
From 29 July 2024 employers must ensure newly elected HSRs undergo their initial 5-day training within 28 days of being elected.
Those elected prior to 29 July 2024 have been granted a grace period and the former timeframe of 3 months continues to apply to these HSRs.
From 29 July 2024 those HSR’s who have been re-elected for another term must undergo the 1-day refresher training within 28 days of being re-elected.
Where it has been more than 12 months since existing HSRs have undertaken refresher training, the employer has an obligation under the WHS Regulation to ensure the HSR undertakes refresher training as soon as practicable.
Due to these changes, TMT will be scheduling more HSR 5-day courses, as well as HSR 1-day refresher courses to meet the upcoming market demand.
