CPCCDE3015A Remove Friable Asbestos

Who is this training for?

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to remove friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The unit includes preparing, enclosing and removing friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements. This particular course delivery is aimed at companies who already undertake friable asbestos removal, or are planning to commence removal, and have all the required equipment.

Course Objectives

This course provides the participants with the skills to:

  • Prepare for asbestos removal
  • Prepare asbestos removal area and removal site
  • Enclose removal site
  • Carry out asbestos removal process
  • Carry out decontamination process
  • Clean-up worksite
  • Contribute to and use documentation in line with regulatory requirements

Course Pre-requisites

Evidence of completion of CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry (Card or Statement of Attainment) must be provided prior to course attendance. Please note a ‘Blue Card’ is not acceptable evidence.

Legislative Requirements

A licensed asbestos removalist must not direct or allow a worker to carry out licensed asbestos removal work unless the removalist is satisfied that the worker holds a certification in relation to the specified VET course for asbestos removal relevant to the class of licensed asbestos removal work to be carried out.

Course outcome

On successful completion of this course, participants will gain the necessary skills to safely work with friable asbestos including preparing, containing and removing friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements.

What will I receive at the conclusion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course assessment, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment, and will also receive a plastic card which shows they have been deemed competent to perform work to remove friable asbestos containing material.

What Are Participant Requirements?

Each participant will require work clothing, safety footwear, gloves and eye protection, coveralls and breathing respirators which have been individually fitted. Other forms of Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by Queensland Training Services Pty Ltd.

The course is conducted as a combination of theory and practical components in a simulated work environment. Participants must have a suitable level of physical fitness to use basic hand tools, remove sheeting and set up a removal area using barricades, plastic sheeting and manually remove bagged or wrapped product.

How will participants be assessed?

Participants’ competencies will be assessed through completion of theory assessment and practical exercises.

Recognition of Prior Learning

A learner’s history of study, skills and experience can be taken into account but it must support the criteria included in the unit of competency. Documentary evidence and interview will be required.

Course Venue and Equipment

This course may only be conducted on-site at a client’s premises. The venue shall have sufficient tables and chairs for participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company.

Please note the client must own or have access to a full asbestos removal decontamination unit to have QTS deliver this training. Where the client does not own or have access to this equipment, we are unable to deliver this course.

Additional Costs and Expenses

Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be on-charged. Mileage will be charged at 80¢ (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.

Where consideration needs to be applied due to cultural, language, literacy, numeracy or other special needs, extra time will be allowed to ensure participants receive sufficient supported training. This time will be charged at our standard rates.
