Who should attend this training?

Any person who is carrying out work involving removal of more than 10m2 of bonded non-friable asbestos or asbestos containing material (ACM).

This qualification may also be required by some principal contractors, organisations or government departments where workers are either removing less than 10m2 of non- friable asbestos related work (e.g. maintenance work).

 

Legislative Requirements

A licensed asbestos removalist must not direct or allow a worker to carry out licensed asbestos removal work unless the removalist is satisfied that the worker holds a certification in relation to the specified VET course for asbestos removal relevant to the class of licensed asbestos removal work to be carried out by the worker. In this instance the licensed removal work is Class B which is the removal of more than 10m2 of non-friable asbestos or asbestos containing material.

 

Course Outcome

On successful completion of this course, participants will gain the necessary skills to safely work with bonded, non-friable asbestos including preparing, containing and removing non-friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements.

 

Course Objectives

This course provides the participants with the skills to:

  • Prepare for asbestos removal
  • Prepare asbestos removal area and removal site
  • Isolate removal site
  • Carry out asbestos removal process
  • Carry out decontamination process
  • Clean-up worksite
  • Contribute to and use documentation in line with regulatory requirements

Course Pre-requisites

Evidence of completion of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry must be provided prior to course attendance.

Please note a ‘Blue Card’ or ‘White Card’ is not acceptable evidence, as it cannot guarantee the above units of competency were assessed.

You must be able to supply evidence such as a Statement of Attainment to enable recognition of undertaking either of these units.

Who is eligible to undertake this training?

Each participant will require work clothing, safety footwear, gloves and eye protection. Other forms of Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by Total Management and Training.

The course is conducted as a combination of theory and practical components in a simulated work environment. Participants must have a suitable level of physical fitness to use basic hand tools, remove sheeting and set up a removal area using barricades, plastic sheeting and manually remove bagged or wrapped product.

 

What will I receive at the conclusion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course assessment, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment, and will also receive a plastic card which shows they have been deemed competent to perform work to remove non-friable asbestos containing material.

 

What if I need help with reading, writing or mathematics?

We can provide support in some areas. Where we cannot we will provide direction to other agencies who may be able to assist.

 

How will participants be assessed?

Participants’ competencies will be assessed through completion of theory assessment and practical exercises.

 

Course Venue and Equipment

Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue, data projector and white board are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company.

A clear area for the provision of the practical component will be required, along with materials suitable for simulation of the process. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities, equipment and materials.

 

Additional Costs and Expenses

Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be on- charged. Mileage will be charged at 80¢ (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.
