Please note we are currently dealing with a very high number of students going through the upgrade process. Although we are moving people through as quickly as we can, our capacity in this space is restricted. Therefore, before enrolling with us, be aware we will not be able to finalise your work prior to 1 April (there are a lot of people in front of you). If you are OK with a 4-6 week lag between you finishing all your assessments and us being able to mark them, then great. If you need your upgrade to be finalised by 1 April, then we cannot assist you at this point.
The TAE40110 transitioned in April 2016, with the expiry date being 5 October 2017. You now cannot study the TAE40110. Those who are looking to gain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will need to enrol into the TAE40116 qualification.
From 1 April 2019 you must then either hold the TAE40116 (or its successor)
OR you must hold:
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and one of the following:
(i) TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, or its successor, or
(ii) TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
and one of the following:
(iii) TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools, or its successor, or
(iv) TAEASS502A Design and develop assessment tools or
(v) TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools
OR you must hold:
A Diploma or higher level qualification in adult education
For those who currently hold a TAE40110 qualification, you can continue to train accredited courses through to 31 March 2019.
From 1 April 2019 onwards, you must hold the TAE40110 with the new core units TAEASS502/TAELLN411 or the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or its successor.
For those training units from the TAE training package, you must hold a TAE50111 or TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training, or a TAE50211 or TAE50216 Diploma of Training, Design and Development, or its successor, or a higher level qualification in adult education.

Already hold the TAE40110 and you want to upgrade to the new qualification? Great stuff. You probably only need to study 1 or 2 units, and demonstrate your competency in the two non-equivalent units TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes and TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation. You will also need to show us currency in delivering and assessing accredited courses.
The TAE40116 has two new core units. They are TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools. Some people may already have both units in their existing TAE40110. If that is the case, happy days, you won't have too much to do, if you wish to upgrade to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Others will have one of these units within their existing TAE40110 which means that along with the two non-equivalent units, they will need to study or RPL the extra unit.
Others won't have either unit in their qualification, and will need to study or RPL both units, along with providing evidence of competency for the two non-equivalent units.
What do you need to do? Take a look at the table below.
So you've got your TAE40110 and you're rather partial to it aren't you? I mean, you worked hard enough to get it, and you've barely had it 5 minutes and those horrible VET people want to rip it away from you and replace it with a new one. Poor TAE40110. Don't worry. You can keep it a bit longer. As long as you add the two units the new qualification requires, you can hang onto the TAE40110 for a while yet. True, ASQA said so - go and re-read the Introduction tab again.
The units you have to gain if you don't already hold them within your TAE40110 are TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools. If you already have both units in your existing TAE40110 - happy days, you don't have to do anything, just don't lose your TAE40110 transcript.
If you have one of them, goodo - you're halfway there. You just need to do the other one, either self-paced through our online portal, or you can come to class, and hang out with our rather excitable trainer.
If you come to class, you'll need to set aside 2 days to undertake the TAEASS502 unit and one day to undertake the TAELLN411 unit. Due to the number of tasks to be completed, you will have after class assessments to complete.
If you don't have either unit, you will need to study both (or go down the RPL pathway).
At the end of the training (and successful completion of assessments), you will end up with a Statement of Attainment for TAELLN411, or TAEASS502, or both, and your existing TAE40110 certificate, which won't change.
Now if you change your mind down the track, and want to change all those over for the new qualification, no biggie, we can do that, it will just cost you a little more, and there's some gap assessments to do for the units in the TAE40110 which didn't come across as equivalent to the new qualification. But we'll chat about that later (or you can go and look at the previous Upgrades tab...)
Our Upgrade process utilises recognition of prior learning. Upon enrolment, you will be asked a series of questions, and participate in a “competency conversation” with a trainer. Your history of study, skills and experience will be taken into account, and where your experience supports the criteria included in the units of competency, this will be used to reduce the amount of study you need to do for this qualification.
Documentary or other evidence will be required for any statements relating to previous experience or credit transfer.
Please note we no longer accept either the BSZ40198 or TAA40104 qualification as an upgrade option, as these qualifications have been superseded for too long, and currency of training and assessing accredited criteria will not be evident. Those holding a BSZ or TAA should undertake the full program.
It is important to understand for RPL to be issued, knowledge combined with recent experience in the VET industry needs to be established.
Please find linked here an enrolment form to upgrade your TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or to simply gain the extra units you require.
If you already have both units and just want your new qualification recognised (RPL components still apply due to the non-equivalence of some units) choose the "Qual Issuance (1 month)" option.
If you need to study one or both of the new units, then choose the "Mostly RPL (3 months)" option.
If you don't wish to gain the new TAE40116, and just want to add the extra units to your existing TAE40110, then choose the unit/s you require from the drop down list.
For those who like classroom training rather than self-paced study, let us know what Option or Unit you've chosen, and we'll let you know when we are running classes for those units.
Many people choose training providers purely on price, without understanding what they will get for their money. Extremely cheap courses of study generally provide no trainer support, and many students never finish their studies, because it all becomes too hard.
Therefore take care when choosing providers based purely on price.
Please note the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification, once achieved, will be issued by Fortress Learning (RTO # 31974).
