CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack fire fighting equipment
ENROL NOW

Who Should Attend

This course is designed to train participants on what is required for first response actions in the event of a fire emergency.  Training will include the identification of first response fire fighting equipment and the techniques to safely and effectively control or contain the emergency.

Under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 new workers must be trained in first response evacuation instructions within one month of starting. This training is to be renewed every 2 years. If there are changes to the emergency plans or equipment, workers must be retrained within one month of the changes occurring.

The course includes both theory and practical components and:

  • Meets the requirements of the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 for first response instruction
  • Provides employees with the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to an emergency situation
  • Trains the correct procedures and appropriate equipment to use in the event of a fire emergency

Course Objectives

Course provides an understanding of fire awareness and first response including:

  • Identification and explanation of fire safety equipment
  • Determination of classification and type of fires
  • Types of extinguishers and hose reels
  • Selection of appropriate fire extinguisher
  • Specific dangers associated with first response fire fighting
  • Safety procedures when fighting fires
  • Instruction and use of fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire blankets, on various type of fires where applicable

State of the Art Digital Simulation

Total Management and Training utilises the BullEx BullsEye Laser Driven Fire Training System. BullsEye senses where the user aims and sweeps a laser training extinguisher and automatically varies the LED driven digital flames in response. The BullsEye’s electronic control system responds to the trainees’ actions, putting the fire out only when the extinguisher is used correctly. Because only laser light is emitted from the training extinguisher, extinguisher training can now be conducted in training rooms, board-rooms, meeting rooms — virtually anywhere.

We can also create realistic training scenarios in any environment. The BullsEye can be positioned in hallways, hotel rooms, ship decks, shop floors, or storage areas to create a variety of realistic training experiences.

Assessment and Outcome

This is an accredited course, therefore participants must demonstrate competency by passing both theory and practical assessments (including demonstrating the use of a fire hose). Participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack fire fighting equipment. Where a fire hose is not available, participants will receive a Statement of Completion.

Recognition of Prior Learning

For those who hold an existing competency in this subject, or if you have prior experience in the use of firefighting equipment, please speak to our staff regarding recognition of your prior skills and knowledge. You will be required to have a competency conversation with a trainer, and have documented evidence of your skills and experience. Please note your evidence must show your own personal involvement in first response firefighting across all equipment within this unit, there must be sufficient evidence of you undertaking these skills over time, and your evidence must be reasonably current (i.e. within 5 years or so).

Licensing or Legislative Requirements

This course covers the employer obligations set out under the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (s36 & s37) for first response evacuation instruction. First response evacuation instruction must be delivered to all new workers within 1 month of them starting work, and refreshed every 2 years.

Reading and Writing Skills

The course is delivered in English and enables discussion and the answering of questions. Reading and writing skills are required, however they do not have to be of a high level, as there is not a requirement to read or write extensively. Participants will be expected to recognise signs written in English, to read the instructions on equipment, provide written answers to simple questions, and undertake practical tasks of using firefighting equipment.

Digital Literacy

There is no requirement to use laptops, computers, tablets or other digital technology in this course. The only 'technology' utiilised in this training may be a laser fire extinguisher, which works in the same way as a normal fire extinguisher.

Student Support

For those who have concerns regarding their ability to undertake this training course, please refer to our Student Information and Support page under the Training menu for further information on what services are offered to those requiring extra assistance.

Venue and Equipment

Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue, data projector and white board are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.

Please note this unit of competency requires the client to be able to access and unspool a fire hose reel. If that option is not available at the client premises, the course may still be conducted, however the outcome will be non-accredited, and the participants will receive a Statement of Completion.

Additional Costs and Expenses

Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be on-charged. Mileage (if driving) and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.

Booking a Course

If you would like to book a course for your organisation, please contact our office, and our helpful staff will assist. Please note dates will be set once booking is confirmed.

Optional - Mini-Inspection

The audit consists of a 1 hour 'mini-inspection' prior to the training delivery, where the trainer will spot-check a section of the facility where the training is to take place, to determine fire safety compliance with regards to evacuation signage and emergency equipment.

A checklist showing the result of the mini-inspection will be provided to the client at the conclusion of training.

Please note the mini-inspection is only available as part of delivery of a training course.

If you would like a complete facility fire safety inspection, please contact our office for a quote.
