Who should attend?
Any persons who may be involved in the risk management process including workers, managers, supervisors, members of safety committees and contractors within an organisation.
What will they learn?
The aim of the course is to provide participants with a basic understanding of the risk management process as required by legislation and relevant codes of practice. This course provides the skills and knowledge required to contribute to WHS risk management, which includes the processes for identifying work health and safety (WHS) hazards and assessing and controlling the risk relating to those identified hazards. It involves contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of risk controls according to legislative and organisational requirements.
Objectives
At the completion of the course participants will have an understanding of the Risk Management Process including being able to:
- Access information and data used to identify hazards and to assess and control risks
- Contribute to identifying risk management requirements and compliance
- Contribute to workplace hazards identification, selecting the correct hazard identification tools and techniques
- Apply the knowledge of hazards to advise individuals about the harms they may cause
- Contribute to WHS risk assessment to determine the nature, severity and likelihood of potential harm
- Contribute to developing and implementing risk controls
- Contribute to evaluating effectiveness of risk controls, and communicate to stakeholders
How will participants be assessed and what will they receive?
As part of the program, you will be required to:
- identify and interpret information and data about WHS requirements and apply them to the selection and application of techniques, tools and processes for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
- contribute to documenting processes
- communicate with required people about WHS requirements and compliance
- comply with WHS requirements for hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control activities
- identify WHS duty holders and their duties.
You will need access to word processing programs and the internet to download files and upload assessment submissions. There is also a requirement to video your consultative processes, for you assessor to observe and assess.
At successful completion of the course participants will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment - BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management.
Customisation
On-site or dedicated courses may be customised to the hazards of specific industries to allow targeted training of managers and employees.
Recognition of Prior Learning
A learner’s history of study, skills and experience can be taken into account but it must support the criteria included in the unit of competency. Documentary evidence will be required.
Course Venue and Equipment
This course may be conducted in our training rooms in Cairns, or on-site at client premises. Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue including data projector (or TV monitor with HDMI input) and white board are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient tables and chairs for participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
Additional Costs and Expenses
Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be on-charged. Mileage and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.
Where consideration needs to be applied due to cultural, language, literacy, numeracy or other special needs, extra time will be allowed to ensure participants receive sufficient supported training. This time will be charged at our standard rates.
